Kids Taste a Career in Libraries at Plainfield Public Library

By Corlan Warren-Horrall August 23, 2025

The Plainfield-Guilford Township Public Library is offering a new way for kids to see behind the scenes of some of the library’s functions. Families are invited to join in the new Kid Librarian program, where kids in preschool through 5th grade can take a tour of the library, write a book review to be displayed, and/or put together a themed display.

“Engaging kids in learning and literacy is so vital to creating lifelong library patrons and advocates,” said Youth Services Supervisor Maureen LaFerney. “Seeing families who are excited to learn more about the library and the work we do here has been very rewarding for all of us. The whole library has pitched in to make it a special experience for the kids who come to visit.”

Librarians schedule a time to work one-on-one with families on the activities they’re interested in. At the end of the program, kids get a personalized name badge as a souvenir. Parents can sign up online here or in person at the Plainfield Public Library at 1120 Stafford Road. The Kid Librarian program is slated to continue year-round, and kids are encouraged to keep contributing book reviews and displays after their initial visit.
